Question 4

Synapsis

Our film “A chatroulette Love Story” is about a boy who spends the majority of his time in his house, online trying to escape from a world unfamiliar to him. When one day on returning from the toilet there is a girl awaiting him on other side of the chat window on Internet sensation “Chatroulette”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatroulette

He is instantly attracted to the girl and tries his hardest to make himself seem impressionable to the girl, in his attempts to do so he makes a fool of him self. After many hours of conversation the girl tells the boy that she has to go because she has to be up early to go to Redcar. To the boys delight he realises that he might get another chance to interact with the girl, as Redcar is his hometown.

The next morning the boy gets up and attempts to clean him self by getting a shave and plucking some unwanted hairs. He dresses up and puts on a bow tie grabs a present and heads for the door.

After getting the bus into town he begins his long wait for the girl, after a few hours of waiting he finally admits defeat and heads for the bus to go home. When he gets on the bus he realises that the girl he had just waited hours to bump into had arrived by now it was to late to leave the bus so he waited until he got to the next stop and at a steady pace headed back into town.

When he finally arrives back in town he starts to cross the road to where he had seen the girl whilst putting on his boy tie, which he had removed after suffering some abuse from a local member of the youth when he is struck, by a vehicle. At this point the screen fades to black and then dissolves back to picture with a shot of the boy in bed who sits up wrapped up in bandages and the film ends with the boy smiling facing toward the camera.

Poster Draft

This is the draft design for the first poster, we had the idea but before we could apply it we first had to plan how the final piece would look.

The second poster had no plan, I decided instead to go by trial and error, which meant I produced around 5 posters before deciding on a final design.

Magazine article.

This is the double page spread for our short film "A Chatroulette Love Story" this is a typical magazine article featuring reviews, snippets of reactions the film has received and stills from the film its self. I used CS4 for the design of the pages to create an authentic magazine look.

Second poster analysis

The first poster we designed we felt seriously lacked an actual poster feel with very little information to offer and an unclear representation of what the film may entail, despite the fact it was quite an original idea if I might say so myself. (first poster seen right)

So post production and back where we started we put our heads together and came up with a new design. (seen below)

The production of the poster was very easy it simply involved combining an image taken during shooting and another image taken of an old computer not during production. I used the threshold tool on photoshop CS4 which is the effect used on the male, then a black and white filter for the computer where the boys face is. I also added an olive green/ or a piss coloured yellow for the background depending on how you see it. After which I added an mirky overlay. The font used was Inai Matchi, a font which is quite popular at the moment according to our boss. The simple design combined with its ability to imply meaning means that the poster is quite successful.

The poster was used to promote our focus sessions and during the sessions and the time before we were informed that that poster looked fairly professional and it did well to advertise the film.

After very little deliberation I decided it was about time for me to make our film poster. The idea for the poster was in my mind from the offset all that was required was for me to do was a short health and safety sheet and to try my hand at sweet talking and charming the IT department in my college to see if I could get hold of any old keyboards that were no longer in use.

After getting hold of the keyboards me and Duce a colleague of mine began the smashing them up for the keys for my poster idea. We then we positioned them to a table top and with a very bad camera took some grimy looking photos. It was as we were sifting through the keys and organising them into piles according to what character they were that we realised we were short a few letters.

This is how the original photos looked.

I had to edit in the missing keys in on photoshop, I also added a feather effect, a grimy overly and added some basic film poster necessities leaving me with the final piece.
